In the land of Mudmutes

After all the heavy rains around this weekend, the weather has turned NICE. The sun is out, the temp slightly cool, a light breeze through the dappled trees (is it really spring?) and the yard is finally dry. Well, except for a FEW spots...

The dogs (Neko & the evil Ms Rita) were napping in the shade after a joyful morning romp. All was serene in our little world, so I went inside to putz around. It wasn't too long before I heard the sound of happy dogs running through the house and heading my way towards the bedroom. I smiled to myself upon hearing their pattering feet & jangling tags. Rita entered first, hopping on the bed to look for me. Neko, being taller and seeing I was elsewhere, came straight for me. Now they were both in a "snuffle mom first" race. It was about this time that looked up to REALLY see them...

What the hell? DON'T TOUCH ME!!! ACK! NO! GO AWAY!!

No mere muddy feet... these were full scale MUDMUTES looking more like hairy chocolate aliens! The bed was covered with big brown footprints, my face & hands are now grit encrusted, and looming before me two VERY wet & solid brown dogs! (And quite pleased with themselves I might add...)

Shooing them out of the bedroom I could see their approach route through the house. Mud was everywhere! It was globbed on the carpets & hallway tiles, smeared up both sides of the sofa, the end tables,  the walls they brushed past, even splattered on the TV! (By the obligatory in-house body shake, no doubt!) Banished to the great outdoors (some punishment, eh?) they were rapidly smearing mud on the glass door as I attempted to clean up.

Mop? Oh, that's right.. threw it out when the handle broke & keep meaning to replace it... The carpet cleaner? Well, the motor's getting weak and it drips dirty water back out the nozzle.. another thing I've been meaning to replace. Out come the towels & sponge for the tiles, upholstery, carpet & walls. Off to the was

her goes the bedspread and my clothes. Now for the dogs... good thing the hose & blower still work fine!

So here I am, soaked from THEIR baths, resting up before I rebathe myself and really wishing I could take a NAP instead of going to work. The dogs, you ask? After their post-bath obligatory "butt runs around the house a thousand times", they are now piled up peacefully sleeping on my feet.

Guess I'll stop and buy that mop and new carpet cleaner on the way home...
